Obituary for V. Dwight Mahoney
V. DWIGHT MAHONEY
LINCOLNVILLE………………Vesper Dwight “Knuckles” Mahoney, 66, passed away on Sunday, January 19th at Harbor Hill Nursing Home in Belfast. Born in Camden on May 1, 1953, Dwight was the son of Sturgis and Harriet (Knight) Mahoney. A Camden-Rockport High School graduate of the Class of 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Army following high school.
Dwight spent many years working on several commercial fishing boats eventually as captain. He later worked in carpentry and painting until he retired.
For most of the past decade, Dwight battled several health issues. He was a loving father, grandfather, devoted fiancé and a great friend to so many people. Dwight was one of the few people that you can say was “larger than life” and he had an even bigger heart. He was quick to lend a helping hand; depending on the situation you always hoped that you were on the right end of the hand.
Dwight enjoyed spending endless days on the lake fishing with Deb and friends. He loved hunting, especially going on the yearly moose hunt. Dwight also enjoyed camping, golfing, playing horseshoes, softball, darts and bowling.
Surviving are two sons, Jason Mahoney and wife Jodie; Ryan Mahoney and wife, Jackie; fiancé, Debbie Lermond; brother, Ed Mahoney and wife, Cami; sister, Lottie Wallace; step father, Ronald McIntyre; step daughter, Jessica Lermond; step son, Matt Berry, grandchildren, Justin, Emily, Kaylee, Ryan Jr. and Leah, along with several nieces and nephews.
Dwight was pre-deceased by his parents, Sturgis and Harriet Mahoney; and sister, Julie Luedeman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3PM, Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Rockland Lodge of Elks, 201 Rankin Street, Rockland. Memorial gifts may be made to Knox County Fish & Game Association, P.O.
