Obituary for Thomas Allen Rokes

CAMDEN………………………..Thomas Allen Rokes, 72, husband of Monica (Morse) Rokes, died at the Sussman House on January 4, 2022 in Rockport following two year battle with glioblastoma.
Born on May 12, 1949 in Camden, he was the son of Horace and Winifred (Carver) Rokes. Tom grew up in Camden and graduated in 1969 from Camden-Rockport High School where he was a member of the cross country team.
Following graduation, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.
On July 6, 1979, Tom married Monica Morse.
Tom was employed at Bath Iron Works as a ship fitter for 37 ½ years. Tom’s great passion was food and he loved to eat and enjoyed most of his wife’s cooking. He was always eager to go out to eat and was willing to try almost anything.
Tom’s hobbies included walking, going to the movies and searching for yard sales for treasures. He was a master gardener and was very particular about how his lawn was mowed.
Over the years, Tom and Monica took many winter vacations in the Caribbean. The family’s favorite destination was Isla Mujeres, Mexico, where he made friends and became very fond of the Mayan people.
During the summer months, Tom could be found “upta camp” on Megunticook Lake hanging out with friends and enjoyed a couple of cold beverages.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step parents, Grace Rokes and Roland Marriner; three stepbrothers, Frederick Young, Dana Marriner, and Wayne Marriner.
Surviving his is wife, Monica Rokes of Camden; two daughters, Holly Rokes of Los Angeles, CA; Hannah Rokes of Brooklyn, New York, sisters, Laurel (Owen) Williams of West Bath; Wendy (Mike) Barie of West Rockport; brother, James (Caressa) Marriner of Glen Saint Mary, FL; five step sisters, Donna Morine, Ruth Ross, Cynthia Menard, Cheryl Beverage, and Candace Crane; sister-in-law, Maureen MacMillan of Thomaston, brother-in-law, Richard Morse of Cushing, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends. Tom will also be missed by his great hunting cat, Luna who honored him daily with a mouse.
The Memorial Celebration will be held at 1PM, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 132 Cobb Road, Camden. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
