Obituary for Susan Mary McLaughlin

Camden……..Susan Mary McLaughlin, 69, died peacefully at her home on July 4th, 2021. Susan was known for her incredible sense of humor, well-timed quick wit, her creativity and fantastic sense of style. She cared deeply for the people in her life and loved being able to help others with her generous spirit. Susan always had a cup of tea ready and all the time in the world for those who needed a wise ear to listen, and they were guaranteed to receive her sage advice as well. She was a vibrant part of her community and hard to miss in a crowd with her signature giant curly hair and mischievous smile.

Susan lived in the Rockport and Camden areas since first moving to the Midcoast in the mid 1970s. She raised her family there and worked in several local publishing businesses over the years, including Color Computer, The Free Press and Target Marketing, generally in the Art Departments. Susan was an artist at heart, apprenticing under Imero Gobbato becoming very close with both Imero and his wife, Josette. Susan was an incredibly gifted painter and writer and was happiest when involved in the creative process.

Susan grew up in Cambridge, MA. Susan graduated from Shaw Prep in Boston and earned her BA from Vermont College in Montpellier, VT, both of which she maintained life-long friendships from.

She was predeceased by her parents, Claire (Nichols) McLaughlin and John McLaughlin, and her brothers, Robert and John McLaughlin.

Susan was deeply devoted to her family and is survived by her daughters Chloe and Morgan Cramer, son-in-law Eric Babcock, grandchildren Sebastian and Isaac Babcock and Quincy and Max Cramer-Percox, her brother Richard and sister-in-law Maureen McLaughlin, nieces Meghan, Laurie, Robyn, Kate, Caitlin and nephew Ricky McLaughlin.

There will be a memorial service celebrating Susan’s life on July 25th from 2-4pm at Merryspring Nature Center in Camden at the Ross Center; 30 Conway Rd. Camden.
