SEANA L. ROUBINEK
ROCKPORT……………………..Adored mother, daughter, sister, neighbor, and friend, Seana Leigh (Miller) Roubinek, passed away on August 26, 2020 following a nine year face off with ovarian cancer.
Born on Christmas Day in 1967 in Austin, Texas, Seana came into this world with a desire to help others. During her childhood, she always looked for a way to make the world around her a better place through helping people and pets.
In 1986, she graduated from Tom C. Clark High School in San Antonio, TX and headed north to the University of Texas where she planned to major in Radio-Television-Film. After a couple of years, she realized her passion of caring for others extended further than the boundaries of the campus.
Seana worked tirelessly in some of the most popular hotels, restaurants, and airlines in the world.
While working fulltime, she earned her Associates in Arts degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Tarrant County College in Texas, before attending and graduating from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in Boston, MA in 2003.
During her career, she always lent a hand to help a neighbor, a local animal shelter, or cook meals for others in need.
As a Rockport resident, she continued to expand her culinary skills at Peter Ott’s and Boynton-McKay, while working at Athena Health.
Growing up in Texas, Seana was inspired by the Annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner in San Antonio, where tens of thousands of people were fed on Thanksgiving Day.
No matter where she lived, she planned, prepped, and prepared hundreds of meals for Thanksgiving Day to ensure that no one went without food.
Her love for feeding others extended beyond the holiday season as she prepared countless meals for her church, neighbors in need, and pretty much anyone who mentioned they were hungry. In addition, she raised funds for various charities through local bake sales and participating in races.
Her goal of “simply finishing” instead of finishing for time pushed her to participate in the Boston Marathon, the Patrick Dempsey Challenge, and other 5K charity events.
After receiving her diagnosis of ovarian cancer in September 2011, she recovered from her first surgery, began chemotherapy, and started educating and advocating for other ovarian cancer patients and raising awareness.
During her struggle with the disease, Seana continued to help others in her community. Through the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), Seana served as a presenter for the Survivors Teaching Students: “Savings Women’s Lives” program. She advocated multiple times on Capitol Hill with OCRA encouraging additional funding for research. Seana served as a consumer reviewer for the Dept. of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program, and was an alumnus of the American Association for Cancer Research Scientist-Survivor Program.
At the Dempsey Center for Hope & Healing in Lewiston, Seana spoke to survivors and fund raised for the center through the annual Dempsey Challenge.
In 2017, Seana earned a coveted spot on running icon, Katherine Switzer’s 261 Team in the Boston Marathon. This particular year was the 50th anniversary running group celebrating Mrs. Switzer breaking the gender barrier in the marathon. With this being the second marathon she’d completed since her initial diagnosis, had Seana grinning from ear to ear for weeks before and after the event.
With all of these accomplishments under her belt, her proudest was being mom to her son, Jordan Roubinek, beloved to her man, Brad Drawbridge, and simply helping those around her.
Surviving is her son, Jordan, her mother, Geils Hengranes and step-father, Grant Hengranes, her father, Warren Miller and step mother, Dorothy Miller, her sister, Carla Martin, brother, David Martin, and multiple nieces, nephews and friends.
