Richard (Dickie?) was a very close Smith College Day School friend in childhood, then a very close neighbor when our family (Stephen Browns) moved to an Amherst College neighborhood. I knew his parents well and had my first job feeding research frogs in his father's biology lab. We were a gang of friends and roamed far and wide in the days when it took a village to raise a child. Though I also moved to Maine 30 years ago, I sadly only reconnected with Richard once at a reunion in Friendship with Susan Davenport, Tom Turgeon (deceased), Ed Salisbury (deceased) and a few others. Many happy memories of the early days. My thoughts are with his family. Anne Brown Keith (b.d.June 1942)

i cannot even begin to fully express my deepst thoughts about Richards passing. I read this and immedialtley felt so ill. Such a dear sweet man, whenever i saw Richard in town he was so very so pleasant, always smiling and upbeat, He would refer to you as the "Princess" and I am so deeply sorry for your great loss Mary Jane... I know you have hundreds of friends, but if there is anything i can ever do to help you in some small way, let me know please. All these years passed and i have though about you and Sarah often. My deepst sympathies. I am totally shocked and saddened.

Richard was a friendly neighbor and friend. Many little conversations over the years at the side of the road. Heartfelt sympathy to Mary Jane and family. Richard made a huge difference in the lives of our children when he asked them to crew on Isobel for Eggemoggin Reach a few years back. A memorable experience and exhilarating day. We'll always remember him and will miss seeing him around the neighborhood.

I never got to know Richard well, my loss. Though I really enjoyed seeing him walk up Chestnut Street briskly for years, walking home from Camden. I always marveled at his health, good looks, and energy. We did get to a point where we would wave, and chat a bit. Just small hellos from time to time. Fairly recently we had one of these hellos, and he mentioned his age to me. I was shocked, as I always had thought he was ten years younger or more. My heartfelt condolences to MJ., and to all of his family and friends.
