CAMDEN, MAINE............. Marjorie A. Sawyer, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2022
at the Sussman House in Rockport with family at her side. A stroke in early June left her in
declining health.
Born June 1, 1928, in Camden, Marjorie was the daughter of Fred and Rita (Huntly) Ames. She
was baptized at Chestnut Street Baptist Church at the age of 16.
Upon graduating from Camden High School in 1946, she became the second production person
hired at Tibbetts Industries, and worked there for seven years.
In 1954, Marjorie married Joseph Sawyer, also of Camden. They built their home, resided in
Camden, and raised three children; Marjo, Judson, and Gina.
An avid traveler, she visited Egypt, England, Israel, Morocco, and the Canary Islands. With her
husband, she travelled to Canada, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the U.S. Virgin
Islands. At home in the USA, they also enjoyed traveling around Maine and visited Arizona,
California (San Francisco area), Colorado (Grand Canyon area), Florida, and Texas.
Her summer pastimes included boating on Penobscot Bay, staying at their camp on Norton’s
Pond, and visiting Spruce Head. Many a mile they toured around the state on their motorcycle. In
her younger years, she spent evenings out dancing, attending concerts and plays and taking in
museums. At the age of 40, she learned to drive and obtained her license; one of her favorite
vehicles was her convertible. She was a member of the Camden Area Senior Citizens club from
its conception. In recent years, she enjoyed watching travel and game shows, reading about the
American judicial system, and expanding her experiences through the adventures of her family.
Marjorie is predeceased by her husband Joe Sawyer; brother Richard; his wife Margaret Ames;
sister-in-law Joan Tibbetts; and nephew Larry Tibbetts. She is survived by her sister-in-law Judy
Sawyer Dell and husband Joseph Dell; Children: Marjo S. G. Meade and her husband Charles
Meade; Judson and his wife Agnes Rice Sawyer; and Gina Sawyer; Nieces: Cynthia Ames
Huston; Elizabeth Tibbetts; Cathy Sine; and Jennifer Ernstrom; Nephews: Paul, James and
Richard Ames; Paul Tibbetts; and Andrew Dell. She is also survived by grandchildren: Sam
Gaudette; Sean Gaudette and his partner Angela Grass; Claire Sawyer and her husband Paul
Shaffer, and Gwendelyn Sawyer as well as Great Grandchildren: Colin Marcus Grass Gaudette
and Angela Rose Sawyer Shaffer and many other extended family members and friends.

House.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, 1:00 pm in the afternoon at the Youngtown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in her honor to the
Camden Rotary Club and the Sussman House.
