Obituary for Leah Patten
LEAH PATTEN
LINCOLNVILLE………………Leah Anne (Thomas) Patten, 78, a life-long resident of the Camden area, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 20th at the Sussman House in Rockport. Leah was the daughter of Frank Alexander Thomas and Helen Waterman Thomas of Camden. Leah was a very kind and compassionate person always putting the needs of other’s first.
Born in Camden on May 31, 1940, as a young girl, Leah excelled in gymnastics and dance. She was a 1958 Graduate of Camden High School and from there she went on to complete a course in Cosmetology to become a hairdresser. After owning her own hair salon, she also served the elderly community by offering hair appointments in their own homes. Later, after leaving hairdressing, she ran a child daycare center in her home for many years.
On September 30, 1961, Leah married R. Wayne Patten.
In 1989 Leah took and passed, with flying colors, a Maine State Nurse’s Assistant Course in which she earned a Certificate from the state to be an assistant to a Registered Nurse. After obtaining her certificate, she opted not to pursue this career path.
In retirement, Leah took care of an elderly relative for several years, and she and Wayne financially supported a young boy in the Philippines from the time he was a toddler until he reached 18 years old. He corresponded with them regularly and that communication brought Leah and Wayne great joy.
Leah practiced meditation for relaxation and was also a deeply spiritual person. She spent a lot of time reading the Bible. She had no doubt where she was going when she left this life.
Leah was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, R. Wayne Patten. Leah’s brother Frank Edward ‘Eddie’ Thomas passed away in 1986. In addition to her sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Gautesen of Union, Leah is survived by her sons, Robert Patten and his wife Ivy of Franklin, Massachusetts, William Patten and his wife Diane of Lincolnville; 6 grandchildren, Alexander Patten, of Franklin, Massachusetts; Tyler Patten of Ledyard, CT; Kendra Patten Wiley and her husband, Joshua of Tenant’s Harbor; Cade Patten and his wife Ellie of Skowhegan; Tucker Patten, and Marley of Lincolnville; and 2 great grandchildren Noah Wiley, and Everleigh Wiley of Tenant’s Harbor.
A graveside service followed by a celebration of her life will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Mountain View Cemetery.
