Obituary for Gordon Reeby Harris

CAMDEN…………….Gordon Reeby Harris, passed away in the early morning hours of
November 19, 2022, soon after his family had been visiting with him. He celebrated his
102 nd birthday on October 5 TH .
Gordon was born in Canada of American parents and spent his early life there with his
parents and his 2 older sisters. He quit school and joined the Canadian army to fight in
WWII. He and his wife Marcia “met” during this time through his future father-in-law’s aunt
and a friend of his dad’s at trade school; and were pen pals during the war. Gordon came
to Framingham, MA to finally meet Marcia Spaulding in 1945. It was love at first sight and
they were married in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1946. They celebrated their 60 th
anniversary shortly before Marcia’s death in 2006. Marcia and Gordon were the parents of
2 children, Perry and Roberta. At age 71 while living in Florida and “subbing” at an
elementary school, Gordon earned his GED.
One of Gordon’s favorite things to do was to sing. Marcia was an organist and thought he
should offer his talents to the church where she was working at the time. As well as her
job as organist and his as occasional soloist, over the years at various locations they
organized and took part in several musicals. After moving to Maine in 2005 and becoming
members of the United Christian Church, Gordon was a frequent soloist. He also enjoyed
playing the harmonica. He and his son-in-law Bob, and others, frequently could be heard
at the Soup Cafe playing tunes after lunch.
Another of Gordon’s favorite pastimes was bowling. He belonged to several leagues
during the years, both candlepin and 10 pin. For the last few years he and his partner
Ruthie bowled twice a week at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport right up until his move to
Windward Gardens. He was on the high scorer board several times!
Most of Gordon’s career was working with the Army National Guard in MA. Many
summers he went away to summer camp as a reservist. He spent several years working
at the Headquarters in Boston and then moved to the Framingham location. He retired
from the military in 1980 and had several part time jobs before he and Marcia moved to FL
in 1986. He also spent a great deal of time being a wonderful husband, father,
grandfather, and friend.
Gordon leaves his significant other of 10 years, Ruth Reece; his son Perry Harris and his
wife Janice of Medford, MA; his daughter Roberta Heald of Lincolnville; his grandchildren
Jason Rawn of Lincolnville and Adam Rawn of Belmont, ME; Jennifer Kelly and her
husband Dave of Townsend, MA; Julie Colten and her husband Dana of Smyrna, GA;
Christine Boberg and her husband Wil of Medford, MA; and his great-granddaughters
Amanda and Lauren Kelly of Townsend, MA.
Please join us for a service for Gordon, and his son-in-law Bob Heald, on Saturday,
December 3 at 11 AM at the United Christian Church in Lincolnville. There will be a
reception directly after the service in the Community Building next door.
