Obituary for Gail Ann Grubbs
THOMASTON – Gail Ann Grubbs, 71, of Thomaston, previously of Waldoboro, died peacefully holding the hand of her son at his home, following a valiant battle with ovarian cancer.
Born at Knox County General Hospital in Rockland on September 6, 1950, she was the daughter of Augustus E. and Annabelle (St. Claire) Stone. Raised in the mid-coast, and attending local schools, she was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1969.
Having a difficult time at young age, Gail lost her father when she was just 15 years old, yet she continued to persevere. Shortly thereafter, her mother married Arthur Fuller, whom she adored.
Gail was known to “do whatever it takes” to provide for her family. She started her working career at a fish factory and Stinson’s Canning. She went to work at Knox County General Hospital and later Pen Bay Medical Center, retiring after 35 years of combined service.
Family was an important part of Gail’s life. After retirement, Gail devoted much time to her grand and great-grandchildren. An avid bingo player, Gail encouraged family to accompany her to games often exclaiming of the prizes that could be won.
Ultimately, Gail’s positive attitude and desire for spreading love and a smile is what has been passed on to her family.
Other than her parents and stepfather, Gail is predeceased by her former husband, Dale Grubbs, Sr.; brother, Robert Stone, twin brother, Gary Stone; Chelsea Jones, mother to two of her great-grandchildren who was a big part of Gail’s life. She is survived by her son, Dale Grubbs, Jr. and his wife, Theresa Waters- Grubbs; sister, Linda Simmons; her six grandchildren, Dylan Grubbs, Brandon Grubbs and his fiancée, Kirsten Cutches, Logan Grubbs and his wife, Katlyn, Kasey Grubbs, Katherine Simoneau, Nicholas Simoneau; and six great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jordan, Layton, Bryson, Annalise, and Levi. She was known as everyone’s ‘Gram’.
A celebration of Gail’s life will be held on September 19, 2022, from 5-7PM at Harbor Light Church, South Main Street, Rockland, with a reception following.
