Obituary for Frederick Oscar Heald

FREDERICK O. HEALD

LINCOLNVILLE………………….Frederick O. Heald, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, peacefully at his home. Born in Camden on Dec. 3, 1926, he was the son of Donald R. Heald Sr. and Marion Gould Heald.

He attended Lincolnville’s one room school house where his future wife Elizabeth Lucille Connors was also a student. They were married at Lincolnville UCC church in 1950.

Fred graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He was in Flight School in the Army Air Corps when WWII ended. He worked at Northrop Grumman and lived in Levittown, NY where he and Lucy raised their four children.

Preceding him in death was his wife ‘Lucy’, sisters, Barbara Heald Ruhl, Betty Heald Connors, and son, Donald V. Heald.

He is survived by his children Frederick A. Heald of Columbus, Ohio, his daughter Jane M. Heald of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and son George W. Heald of Bangor, Maine. Grandchildren: Timothy (Toni) Heald, Paula Heald and great grandchildren Finnian and Caden Heald. Step great grandchildren Dan and Nate Patterson. He is also survived by his brother, Donald ‘Duke’ (Betty) Heald, nephew Ernest Connors Jr., and niece Anne Connors whom he helped raise, nieces and nephews and his friend and companion of 11 years, Phyllis Baker.

Fred and his family vacationed yearly in Maine until he and Lucy moved back in 1991.

Fred was active in the community as a member of his home church in Levittown and the United Christian Church in Lincolnville Center. He sang in both church choirs and played clarinet in the Lincolnville band until he was over 90 years old. He loved making music and enjoyed golf and bowling. His presence was solid and constant, dependable as the changing seasons. He cared a lot about others and was very charitable.

A graveside service followed by military honors will be held at 2PM, Thursday, October 29, 2020 in the Upper Heal Cemetery. Covid restrictions including masks and proper social distancing is required. Portable seating is also welcome.
