Obituary for Frederick Miles Davis

CAMDEN……………..On Friday, June 10, 2022, Frederick Miles Davis of Camden journeyed from his life on
earth to his life in heaven. Born in Camden on April 4, 1935, he was the son of Harold Stanley and
Mildred (Leach) Davis, attended Camden schools and graduated from Camden High School in the Class
of 1953. He then completed his education at Husson College graduating in 1957 with a bachelor’s
degree in accounting.
On August 3, 1956, Fred married his lifelong love, Arlene Rose Magee, also of Camden. This August
would have marked their 66 th wedding anniversary, but they counted their days together from when
they first met in kindergarten, 82 years ago.
Mr. Davis proudly began his working life at a young age with a newspaper route. Following his college
graduation, Mr. Davis was employed in succession by the Bangor Roofing Company, the Knox Woolen
Mill in Camden for 24 years, and Manset Marine in Rockland for 15 years. He retired in 2000. He served
the people of Camden for over 30 years as Trustee of the Job Montgomery Fund. Davis was well-known
and will be long-remembered for this dedication to family, his faithfulness to duty, his sharp mind, his
love of numbers, his quiet sense of humor, and his slow, batter-baffling curve ball.
His love and faithfulness extended also to God and to the church attending for many years, the
Cornerstone Baptist Church in Camden where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer.
Fred loved traveling with his family, eating lobster rolls, playing Parcheesi and cheering for the Boston
Red Sox. Following retirement, he developed a passion for painting and his work graces the walls of
family and friends.
Mr. Davis is surviving by his loving wife, Arlene, four children, Lynne (Ted) Chaffee, Terri (Matt) Wolf,
John (Debbie) and Tedd; two brothers, Robert of Maryland and Paul (Elaine) of Kentucky; three nieces
and one nephew. Fred was particularly proud of his twelve grandchildren, and fourteen great-
grandchildren, soon to be fifteen.
A small private graveside service was held on June 15, 2022 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. Memorial
gifts may be made to The Sussman House, 40 Anchor Drive, Rockport, ME 04856. Condolences may be
shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral
Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
