Obituary for Elisabeth Bohndell

ELISABETH P. BOHNDELL
ROCKPORT……………….Elisabeth “Betty” P. Bohndell, age 99, and a 76 year resident of Rockport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019. Born in Leutershausen, Germany, Betty came to the United States in 1935. Shortly after her arrival, Betty secured employment with the Walter Wolf family in Philadelphia caring for their children. She soon became part of the family and lifelong friends, traveling in the summers to Rockport, where she met Henry F. Bohndell. They were married on November 7, 1942 and together, they continued the successful family business, E.S. Bohndell Sails, until their retirement in the early 1980’s.
Betty welcomed everyone into her home with genuine warmth and caring. Her specialty was her famous apple cake, made with her special recipe. She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Camden and was an enthusiastic volunteer, ready to take on new challenges.
Beloved wife of the late Henry F. Bohndell, Betty was predeceased by her brother, Robert, her sister, Martha, and niece, Ortrud Meinhardt. She is survived by her sister, Erika Miltner; devoted nephew, Fr. Helmut Miltner; nieces and nephews, Christa Weber, Annemarie Kunkel, Robert Allgeier, Elisabeth Brand, and their extended families in Germany, Barbara Horan, David Thomas, Emily Meehan. Special acknowledgement and gratitude to her many dear friends and caregivers) including Pat and John Gibbons, Maureen O’Donnell, Annie Appleton, Nancy Boylan, JoAnn Kiaune, Gerd and Donna Hasal, Connie Milliken, Grace Stearns, Patty McGowan, the Young family and devoted neighbors, Carl Mahoney and the Moro family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Betty at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, 7 Union Street, Camden at 11:00 am on Monday, March 11, 2019, followed by a reception in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Betty’s memory to
Our Lady of Good Hope Women’s Club, 7 Union Street, Camden 04843; St. Bernard’s Soup Kitchen, 7 Union Street, Camden 04843; or to the Youth Sailing Program c/o Rockport Boat Club, PO Box 254, Rockport, ME 04856.
Spring burial will be in Amesbury Hill Cemetery in Rockport.
