Obituary for Dorothy A. Mills

CAMDEN – Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Adria Ingraham Mills, age 96, member of John Street United Methodist Church, passed away Monday, July 20, 2020.

Proudly born in Camden, February 18, 1924, Dottie was the daughter of Joshua & Virginia Moore Ingraham. Dottie graduated from Camden High School, when it was only a three-story-building. She then happily married her husband, Sumner ‘Mose’ Davis Mills.

During the World War II era and the Pearl Harbor Attack, Dottie and her sister would climb Mount Battie daily and with their binoculars they would watch for enemy planes flying by and the enemy ships in the harbor. Later in life, Dottie would crochet 2 lap robes a week with Rockland’s ‘Knit-Wits’ group for nursing homes and Meals on Wheels.

Other than her parents and husband, Dottie is predeceased by sisters Bea I. Cunningham, Mona Lucille Ingraham; and her son and daughter-in-law Joshua A. and Linda Ingraham. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Mills Lesmerises and her husband Armand; grandchildren, Kimberley, Andrew Lesmerises, and his wife, Suzanne Cifaldo, Ruthie Lesmerises and Joshua Perry; great-grandchildren Oliver, Gregory, and Isaiah; brother-in-law Craig Cunningham; nieces and nephews, Carolan and Jeff and their 4 children, Craig R. & Patti and their children.

Condolences and remembrances may be shared with the Mills family by mail to 4 Grove St, Camden, Maine 04843; by e-mail: avlesmerises@gmail.com or here on the Book of Memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests doing a kind deed, patiently for an elderly person and give them a well-intended smile. Life is challenging when one is old.
