Obituary for Charlotte Hunt Pease (Hunt)

CHARLOTTE H. PEASE
CAMDEN……………….Beloved wife and mother, Charlotte Hunt Pease, 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 24, 2021. She was born on a chicken farm in Lincolnville on May 5, 1939 to Grace Parsons and Ralph Merton Hunt.
When she was 13 years old, Charlotte attended a community dance where she met the love of her life, Nathan Pease, Jr. They never looked back. Nate and Charlotte had a life-long love affair that romance books are written about. They were engaged when Charlotte was 14, and were married on December 16, 1956 when she was 17. In January of 1957, they left for a 6-month adventure to Panama, where Nate was stationed during the Korean Conflict. Even though they were desperately poor, they had the time of their lives and always fondly reminisced about it. They came home during the summer of 1957 settling in East Union and started their family of four children. December 16, 2020 marked 64 years of marriage. However, they were together over 67 years.
Charlotte was a beautiful woman with a flair for pretty clothes and shoes and accessories. She took great pride in her appearance and she always smelled so good. Charlotte was also smart and creative and able to do just about anything she made up her mind to do. For instance, she got her motorcycle driver’s license in a day when not a lot of women did such a thing. Charlotte was a florist and, for a time had her own florist business out of her home. An avid gardener, her flower gardens were beautiful and admired by many. Charlotte loved to decorate her home and her taste was always on the cutting edge of the style of the time. She also enjoyed entertaining in her home.
Community minded and an active volunteer, Charlotte as a youth was involved with 4-H and started the Pioneer Beavers 4H Club in East Union. She served many years in the Cooperative Extension through the University of Maine and started a Christmas tree farm at the Lincolnville Elementary school in memory of her father who raised and sold Christmas trees for many years until his death. A member of the Hatchet Mountain Snow-Riders, Charlotte was also involved in many community fundraisers. She was always the first person to offer to help when people in her community were in need.
Charlotte loved all animals, often talking and entertaining them. Many dogs had the pleasure of calling her Mom over the years.
A homemaker deluxe, Charlotte was an excellent cook. Her delicious “down home” Maine cooking nourished four active kids to adulthood. She loved her children and grandchildren, and was involved in their lives teaching them how to swim. Her love of animals was passed on to her family as well as her gift of creativity. Even as adults, her children and grandchildren enjoyed her company. Her laughter and great sense of humor, made Charlotte a fun person to be around. During the past year while in the nursing home, Charlotte made the best of her time there.
A Godly woman who raised her children to love God, Charlotte had a very strong faith and served her church until she was no longer physically able to do it. Charlotte was absolutely a Proverbs 31 woman.
Predeceased by her brother, Stanley W. Hunt, her grandson, Vincent P. Galkowski and her son-in-law, Daniel Burns, she is survived by her husband, Nathan R. Pease, Jr.; her four children, Sonja Burns, Vick (Shanie) Pease, Stacey (Johnny) Mckenzie, Molly (Wayne) Luce; sister-in-law, Lynne (Joseph) Fernands; her grandchildren, Rachael (David) Umstead, Zacchary (Stephanie) Aiken, Nathan B. Pease, Annie (Peter) Gray, Myriah Sochurek, Victor (Chelsea) Botley, Samuel Luce; 3 nephews and 12 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4PM, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. There will be a memorial service held at 2pm, Sunday, March 7, 2021 at the West Rockport Baptist Church. Covid restrictions will apply to both events.
