Beverly Salmond Frain
1942 - 2019
ROCKLAND……………Beverly Salmond Frain of Bay Head, NJ, died peacefully after a short illness surrounded by family. Born April 12, 1942 in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Vera Salmond and predeceased by her older brother, Douglas.
Beverly was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and Red Sox fan. She spent a good part of her life raising her children in New Providence, New Jersey, where she was active in her neighborhood; driving the car pool, playing bridge, golf, and attending her children's sporting events.
In 1982, the family moved "down the shore" to Bay Head to start another chapter, where she enjoyed many of her happiest times with family and friends. Bev loved flowers and worked as a designer as well as on the
beach for the Bay Head Improvement Association. She loved hosting her children's friends at the house and also enjoyed going to "The Bluff's" with her circle of friends.
With the birth of her second grandchild, Bev started her next chapter with a move to Rockland, Maine, where she bought her first house on her own. She loved her home and was especially proud of her garden featuring lupines and peonies, her favorites. Bev loved to cook and worked in the Rockland High School Cafeteria as well as proudly started her own business; "Grammy's Goodies" which she baked at home and sold at the Rockland Farmer's Market. Bev's love of politics led her to become president of the Knox Country Republican Women. She loved manning the booth at the Union Fair and volunteering "down at headquarters". As the winters became harder with COPD, Bev moved to North Carolina near her son and daughter-in-law to enjoy the fine weather and to travel. A trip to California to the Reagan Museum and attending "The Masters" where she saw Tiger Woods play, were two highlights. In Greensboro, Bev volunteered for the Women's Republican Group and was very active in helping to elect several NC State House and Senate members. Mom was a voracious consumer of media. It would not be uncommon for her to be watching the TV news and following a twitter feed all while "Downton Abby" plays on the DVD player. She also loved "Jeopardy" and in her younger years could keep up with any contestant.
She was a lover of all kinds of music- her children were brought up on Ray Charles and Simon and Garfunkel, but she also was fond of Patriotic music, Bagpipes, and during a recent MRI, requested Jimmy Buffet. Mom was a most enthusiastic fan of St. Patrick’s Day and all things Irish.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humor, often laughing until she lost her breath.
As her health started to fail due to a lifelong lung illness, Bev moved to Maine to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was able to visit with all five grandchildren in the weeks before her death. She never missed a chance to say "I love you". One of her favorite expressions was "It's a good thing..."
Beverly is survived by her brother, Robert Salmond of Somerset, Massachusetts, sister-in-law Elizabeth Salmond of London and Martha's Vineyard, her children, Lynn, Doug, and Stephanie and their spouses, David, Melissa and Jason, her grandchildren, Molly, Quinn, Myles, Bea and Lucy, and good friends, Merilee and Ken Spencer, of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, and Linda Post, of Owls Head, Maine.
