Obituary for Joan Ingraham Wentworth

JOAN I. WENTWORTH
CAMDEN…………….Joan Ingraham Wentworth, 78, of Camden, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Sussman House with her family by her side. Born at the Camden Hospital on Mountain Street in Camden on August 29, 1938, she was the daughter of Arthur Webster and Charlotte (Ingraham) Wentworth. Joan grew up in Camden and was proud to live on Mechanic Street for many years, a home that had been in her family since 1903.
Very interested in the history of Camden, Joan could recall facts and on occasion, amusing stories which she openly shared with family and friends.
A devoted homemaker and excellent cook, Joan was known for her open invitation to neighborhood children and friends to enjoy a home cooked meal.
Joan was a very independent and responsible woman, and felt she could accomplish just about anything. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and was well known for her amazing pickles and canned goods. Joan loved all animals, especially cats taking in many strays in need of a good home. It was also very important for her to keep the birds well supplied with food.
Very talented in crocheting and knitting, Joan loved to make hats, mittens, and afghans for her children, grandchildren, and her friends’ children.
Surviving are her five children, Philip Pratt and his wife Sarni; Sandra Kurr; Jolene Mulvihill and her husband, Kevin, all of Warren; Erick Pratt of Camden; and Norie Pratt and her companion, Kelly of Appleton; a sister, Mary Ober and her husband, Gibby of Camden; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including a very devoted niece, Pammy. She was predeceased by her grandson, Justin Arthur Pettee and an infant niece, Katherine.
A spring graveside service will be announced to be held in Mountain View Cemetery in Camden. If desired, memorial gifts may be made in her memory to Penobscot Bay Pet Pantry, P.O. Box 2004, Hope, ME 04847; Sussman House, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841; or to PAWS, P.O. Box 707, Camden, ME 04843.
